Can I add POP accounts for my stacked or parked domains?
Real POP accounts cannot be set up for stacked domains. You must use an alias name for it. This is the procedure for your alternative...
Your master account we will call parent (which is the main domain name your server was set up with) and the stacked or parked domain (which is a domain you have has us park or stack on your DNS) we will call child in this explanation..
The parent account has unlimited POP box account capability for your parent domain; BUT, seeing that stacked domains share your IP numbers, there cannot be POP boxes created for any child domains so that the child account holders can access using their own pop3 setup on your server.
Your client wants for example george so people can email him at his stacked domain. What you do is find out from George what email account he currently uses like his ISP's assigned email box or a hotmail box or you may even have a POP box created under YOUR parent domain name for him to access it with an email client.. You need to place the name george in your alias .redirect file in your "home" folder on your server. Make certain that you place beside the name george the email address he needs to pick up all his email from. In this example we will say george
the redirect file on your server should read something like this...
wendy wen45
george george
wembaster me
default yourdomain
See above how george's alias name will now send anything emailed to george (which doesn't exist as a POP box account but is actually an alias) to george at his hotmail account for pick up.
Your client, like George MUST configure his or her email program to place in the setup of his program the return address of george so that when someone responds to george, their email program will put george's george address
in the TO: field when responding back to George..
Please see the section about creating aliases in the FAQ to know how to properly construct a redirect.txt and how to place it on the server and rename it to .redirect after your finished.
